The Best Places to Elope in Tennessee

Planning your Tennessee elopement is like going on a really cool adventure, and the first thing you gotta do is find that perfect spot. Tennessee has a bunch of different places that are all special in their own way. Imagine saying your vows surrounded by misty mountains in the Great Smokies, having a super pretty ceremony along Foothills Parkway, or escaping to the romantic meadows of Roan Mountain. There are so many choices, just like your unique love story.

Here are 6 amazing locations to elope in Tennessee:

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The Smokies top the list for a reason! Here you will find many cool locations for your elopement, breathtaking mountain views, waterfalls and other cool activities that you can add to your special day. They have more than 20 designated locations where you can hold a ceremony But you have tons of options for a second location where you can have a mini adventure and get more of those dope photos that you are looking for! Elope at the Smokies is really easy; you will need to get a special permit, but nothing complicated. The price range is from $50 - $150 but that is gonna depend on when you apply it. I recommend that as soon as you choose your ceremony location apply for your permit because some locations are really popular and depending on the season they have a limited amount of ceremonies per day.

Best time to visit: April - Nov.

Roan Mountain State Park

This spot is like a dream come true if you're all about those breathtaking views for your elopement! It's seriously one of my absolute favorites because you don't have to go on a longer hike to get those stunning views – it's just a quick 20-minute jaunt. Trust me, you've got to check it out. Plus, the park has these cozy cabins where you can stay, and they've got other neat options if you want to bring along some of your loved ones.

Bonus: No need for a permit if it's just the two of you, which makes it perfect for an intimate celebration. And get this – it's right on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, so you get to experience the best of both states. Isn't that amazing?

Chattanooga is a charming city just a couple of hours from Knoxville, making it a perfect spot for your elopement adventure. Whether you're seeking stunning overlooks like Snooper’s Rock or dreamy waterfall backdrops like Greeter Falls, you'll find plenty of dope options here. One of my favorite location is Edward’s Point for sure, some locations are just a short drive from Downtown, so you can easily wrap up your outdoor ceremony and head into town for a romantic dinner. Just remember, depending on where you choose to say "I do," you might need to get a permit. Reach out to the Range District of your chosen location to make sure everything's in order.

I love coming here whenever I can because not only is it convenient, but there's also plenty of other fun stuff to do around here. If you're into water activities, this place is perfect for adding some adventure to your elopement day. Plus, there are these adorable cabins where you can get back and relax. It's perfect if you want to bring along a few family members, but keep in mind, it's best to keep the guest list small – under 10 people. And just as the name suggests, it's a bit rocky around here. Tips to choose your Tennessee Elopement Location

Here are some tips to make your search smoother and ensure you discover the ideal spot to say "I do":

  • Define Your Vision: Clearly describe what you want for your elopement. Do you picture getting married on a mountain, by a river, or a waterfall? Knowing what you like will help you narrow down your choices.

  • Consider the Season: Tennessee has all four seasons, each with its own beauty. Whether you like spring flowers or fall colors, the season will affect where you choose. Some locations are available in specific seasons. Here you can find more details about the best time to elope in Tennessee.

  • Research Permits: Some places may need permits for ceremonies or photos. Look into what permits you need for your chosen spots to make your elopement smooth. This can start from $50-$200 depending of the location.

  • Think About Guests: If you're having guests, consider their comfort and where they can stay. Choose a location with easy access and nearby lodging. Some locations can hold up to 10 people (including you both and your vendors).

  • Consider Privacy: If you want an intimate experience, think about how private each location is. Some spots are more secluded, offering a more personal setting. Some of the best locations or more secluded spots may require hiking a little further or driving a couple of hours longer.

  • Check Accessibility: Think about how easy it is for you, your guests, and vendors to get to the location. If it's an adventure elopement, make sure everyone is comfortable with the difficulty.

  • Hire a Local Photographer: Local photographers who know the area can be helpful. They know great spots, the best lighting times, and can suggest unique locations.

  • Be Flexible: While it's good to have a vision, be open to surprises. Tennessee has hidden treasures, and being flexible might lead you to a location better than you imagined.
