Ozone Falls

Ozone Falls are my favorite location for a mini adventure without doing a longer hike. This waterfall is amazing looking and also there are other beautiful spots around for pictures. This hike leads to a magnificent cove situated at the base of the falls. There is an amazing wading pool and plenty of rocks to sit and relax on. The trail is short but steep and rocky. Some of the rocks can be wet and slippery, especially near the falls. It’s just one hour drive from Knoxville. Can be crowded on the weekends and more in summer time so I recommend a weekday for my seclusion. This location is perfect if you are planning just to be the two of you or for a second location.

The best time to Visit: March - Nov

No Permit Needed

Abrams Falls are just right at Cades Cove in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Love this waterfall because it’s a perfect option to have a little hiking adventure after your ceremony at Cades Cove so you can get a variety of photos and also two cool locations in one loop. This is a 5 mile hike but it’s easier than you think and trust me it’ll be totally worth it. You can get close to the waterfall and also there are beautiful spots along the trail. This is a popular trail but you can find more seclusion on a weekday or an early morning.

Permit: You will need a special permit to hold your ceremony at Cades Cove but don't need another permit to Abrams Falls ( this is not a designated location)

Considerations to Elope next to a Waterfall

  • Timing is crucial when planning an elopement next to a waterfall. Since many waterfalls are tucked away in cliffside locations, opting for a morning ceremony ensures better lighting compared to the afternoon.

  • When it comes to footwear, be sure to pack sturdy hiking shoes. Waterfall areas can be rocky, so having appropriate footwear is essential for safety and comfort.

  • Don't forget to bring along extra clothes and maybe a small towel – you're bound to get wet! Choosing a flowy dress adds a touch of drama to your photos, enhancing the magical setting.

  • Bring some extra time to fully enjoy your waterfall experience. Consider having a picnic or popping champagne to celebrate your special moment.

  • Since waterfall elopements typically accommodate fewer guests, consider making it more of an intimate ceremony just the two of you. If you're planning to have more guests, you might opt for the waterfall as a second location rather than the ceremony itself.

  • When it comes to video recording, keep in mind that exchanging vows next to a waterfall might not yield the best audio quality. If you have a filmmaker, consider having the ceremony in a different location close to the waterfall to ensure clear audio.

  • Hire a local photographer who is familiar with the area.
